About Our Ironwork
Hand-forged ironwork is shaped directly at the forge — heated in a coal or gas forge to working temperature and hammered, bent, and twisted by a blacksmith's hand tools. This creates organic, slightly irregular lines that give the work character and authenticity. Fabricated or machine-made ironwork is cut, bent with hydraulic equipment, and welded from stock sections. It produces consistent but often stiffer-looking results. Our work combines both approaches: hand-forging for scrolls, tapers, and decorative elements; precision fabrication for structural components.
We work primarily with A36 mild steel, which is strong, weldable, and excellent for hand-forging. For period-accurate restoration work, we source genuine wrought iron. For projects requiring corrosion resistance (coastal areas, pools), we use 304 or 316 stainless steel. Bronze, brass, and copper accents are available for hardware and decorative elements. All materials are sourced domestically from certified suppliers.
With proper finishing and maintenance, hand-forged ironwork can last decades — even centuries. Many historical wrought iron pieces are still in service after 200+ years. Our pieces are finished with corrosion-resistant coatings (hot zinc galvanizing, powder coat, or traditional oil-and-wax) and we provide detailed care instructions. We also offer periodic maintenance services to keep your ironwork looking and performing like new.
Absolutely — custom design is the core of what we do. Every project begins with your vision. We'll create sketches, CAD drawings, or full-scale mock-ups as needed to ensure the final product matches your expectations exactly. We've never delivered two identical pieces, and we're proud of that.
Pricing & Payment
Custom ironwork pricing varies widely based on complexity, size, material, and finish. Simple items (fireplace tools, hardware) may start around $300–$800. A single decorative gate can range from $1,500 to $15,000+. Full fence and gate systems for large estates can reach $50,000–$150,000. We provide detailed written estimates after a free consultation, so you'll know exactly what to expect before any commitment.
Yes. We require a 50% deposit to begin work on any custom project. The remaining 50% is due upon completion before installation. For very large commercial projects, we can arrange milestone-based payment schedules. We accept check, bank transfer, and all major credit cards (a 3% processing fee applies to card payments).
Yes, our consultations and written estimates are completely free of charge. There is no obligation attached to receiving an estimate. We believe in transparent, up-front pricing so you can make the best decision for your project.
Lead Times & Scheduling
Small projects (hardware, brackets, simple screens) typically take 2–4 weeks after deposit. Medium projects (gates, railings, chandeliers) run 4–8 weeks. Large-scale or complex commercial projects can require 8–16 weeks or more. We provide specific timeline estimates with every quote and communicate any changes proactively. Rush production is available on select projects for an additional fee.
For routine residential projects, 6–8 weeks notice is sufficient. For large-scale, commercial, or high-complexity projects, 3–6 months is ideal to ensure we can allocate the necessary shop time. We do accommodate last-minute requests when shop capacity allows, but we can't guarantee availability for short-notice large jobs.
Installation & Care
Yes. Our team handles professional installation for all projects within our service area. We coordinate with your general contractor or directly with you. For projects outside our normal range, we can arrange installation by a trusted local ironwork contractor or provide detailed installation drawings for your contractor to follow.
We service [Your Primary Region] and surrounding areas. We've traveled as far as [distant location] for significant projects. For out-of-area projects, travel and accommodation costs are factored into the project estimate. Contact us to discuss your location.
Painted or powder-coated ironwork needs minimal maintenance: clean annually with mild soap and water, inspect for chips or scratches, and touch up with matching paint as needed. Traditional oil-wax finished ironwork should be re-oiled periodically (1–2 times per year in high-humidity environments). We provide detailed, product-specific care guides with every installation and are happy to answer questions at any time.
We offer a lifetime craftsmanship warranty on all custom work. If any weld cracks, joint separates, or structural element fails due to workmanship, we will repair or replace it at no charge. This warranty does not cover damage from accidents, vandalism, improper installation (if third-party), or normal wear and cosmetic aging of finishes over time.
