Iron forging process at Two Crowns Iron Works

How We Work

Our Process

Transparency is part of our craft. Here's exactly how we transform your idea into a hand-forged reality — from first call to final installation.

Step by Step

From Vision to Iron

1

Initial Consultation

Every project begins with a conversation. We discuss your vision, review references, assess the site, and understand your timeline and budget. This is a no-pressure, complimentary consultation — by phone, video, or in person.

2

Design & Estimating

Our team creates detailed design sketches or CAD drawings tailored to your specifications. We present a comprehensive written estimate covering materials, labor, coatings, and installation. Revisions are made until you're completely satisfied.

3

Engineering & Approval

For structural or commercial projects, we coordinate with engineers and local building departments as needed. We handle permitting requirements and ensure all designs meet applicable codes (IBC, ADA, local ordinances).

4

Material Selection

We source premium steel, wrought iron, or specialty metals based on your project's requirements. Every piece of material is inspected before it enters the shop — no seconds, no compromises.

5

Hand-Forging & Fabrication

This is where the magic happens. Our smiths heat, hammer, bend, and shape every element at the forge. Scrollwork, collars, tenons, rivets — all formed by hand with traditional blacksmithing tools. Modern welding and precision cutting are used where appropriate.

6

Finishing & Coating

After fabrication, each piece is cleaned, ground smooth, and finished. We offer a range of coatings: oil-and-wax traditional finishes, hot zinc galvanizing, powder coating (hundreds of colors), and hand-applied patinas for an aged look.

7

Quality Inspection

Before leaving the shop, every weld is inspected, every measurement is verified, and every surface is examined. We don't release a piece that we wouldn't be proud to put our name on.

8

Delivery & Installation

Our team handles professional delivery and installation. We coordinate with your contractor or general contractor if needed, ensure plumb and level installation, test all moving parts, and leave the site clean. A final walkthrough with you confirms everything is perfect.

9

After-Care & Warranty

We back our work with a lifetime craftsmanship warranty. We also provide care instructions and offer periodic maintenance services (cleaning, touch-up coating, hardware servicing) to ensure your ironwork remains beautiful for decades.
